Hot day, windy night in the offing

Strong winds are expected in the northern parts of the country by Monday night after a hot day, the Qatar Met department has said.

Offshore areas, too, are likely to see strong winds along with high seas by Monday afternoon, according to the weather report.
On Saturday, the Met department had said fresh to strong northwesterly winds were again expected to affect the country from Monday until Thursday (June 2) due to the extension of the Indian monsoon trough, along with a high-pressure ridge, over the northern Arabian Peninsula.
The wind speed is likely to increase gradually and reach its peak tomorrow and on Wednesday, when it may go up to 35 knots at times. This will result in blowing dust and poor visibility, which may drop to 2km or less in some areas.
The forecast for inshore areas on Monday says it will be “hot to very hot” during the day and slight to blowing dust is also expected in some places by night.
Slightly dusty conditions are also likely in offshore areas at times.
The wind speed may reach a high of 22 knots in both inshore and offshore areas, with the sea level rising to 7ft.
Visibility may decrease to 3km in some areas by tonight.
Meanwhile, data provided by the Met department showed that the mercury level reached a high of 46C in Turayna and Batna on Sunday, followed by 45C in Karana and Ghuwayriyah, 44C in Sheehaniya, 43C in Jumayliyah and Al Khor, 41C in Abu Hamour and 40C at Doha airport and Qatar University.
On Monday, the maximum temperature is expected to be 44C in Doha, Messaied, Wakrah and Al Khor, 41C in Dukhan, 40C in Abu Samra and 35C in Al Ruwais.
