Four traffic lanes on Shamal Road closed

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a nearly 18-month closure from tomorrow of the four south-bound traffic lanes on a part of Al Shamal Road to Doha.
The closure, scheduled to last until the end of 2017, is to start approximately 1km after Exit 35 (Al Khor Exit) at the intersection of Al Shamal Road with Al Khor Road, as shown on the map.
With this change, the four south-bound traffic lanes on Al Shamal Road will be closed for a total distance of 1.3km. The four northbound lanes on Al Shamal Road were previously closed and diverted to an adjacent road as part of Ashghal’s construction work in the area.
Ashghal will divert the southbound traffic (towards Doha) to a newly constructed diversion road adjacent to the closed section of Al Shamal Road, which provides four lanes for road users, as shown on the attached map.
The speed limit will be reduced from 120kph to 80kph along the diversion route to ensure the safety of road users and the project’s workforce.
The closure is required to allow for the construction of the bridge at the intersection between Al Shamal Road and the New Orbital Highway, as part of the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route Project, contract four.
Ashghal will install road signs to advice motorists of the closure. The authority requests all road users to abide by the speed limits, and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
