2.13mn to benefit from QC’s Ramadan initiative

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched its Ramadan campaign for this season under the slogan “Your Giving Saves Lives”, with more than 2.13mn people expected to benefit from the initiative.
The estimated cost of the projects it intends to implement during the month of Ramadan 1437 AH, within and outside Qatar, will exceed QR32.2mn, QC has said in a statement.
The campaign marks a “qualitative leap within Qatar and abroad in terms of diversity and expanding the circle of beneficiaries, which has increased from last year by about 88,000 people”, according to QC officials.
Ramadan projects outside Qatar are valued at around QR 14mn and include Iftar for fasting people, Eid clothing and Zakat al-Fitr. It is expected that 1,152,896 people will benefit from these activities.
The cost of Ramadan projects within Qatar will exceed QR18mn and these are expected to benefit 978,110 people.
The Ramadan campaign this year will especially focus on the Syrian people through the allocation of a large share of funds for refugees and displaced people. In addition, a share of the funds will be given to countries suffering from exceptional circumstances during the holy month, especially as Iftar projects.
Ali Atiq al-Abdallah, executive director of internal affairs, has urged Qatari residents to donate money for Qatar Charity’s projects both within and outside Qatar, including providing relief to the Syrian people, sponsorship of orphans and needy families, and educational, health, income-generating and water projects.
For the campaign within Qatar, new programmes have been developed in the cultural, educational and entertainment fields, such as various competitions and projects that will be held at Katara – the Cultural Village and Aspire Zone.
The campaign aims to reach 173,400 fasting people with the provision of Iftar at 24 collective tables. These tables will be distributed in various parts of the country and are aimed at bachelors, passers-by and low-income workers.
A number of contests will be held as part of the campaign. These include the fourth Qura’nic contest, malls contest, youth initiatives contest and domestic excellence.
Other highlights include the Da’wa initiative, a football tournament and smartphone applications such as the “goodness alarm” and “I pray”.  In addition to events provided by the QC community development centres, there will be - for the first time - programmes for domestic workers.
There will be special radio shows on the occasion, including ‘Taraweeh’ (Qur’an Radio), ‘Asfaars’ (Gulf Voice) and ‘The most useful for people’ programme (Qatar Radio.) Reality TV shows ‘One Heart 3’ (Al Rayyan Channel) and Safari Al Khair 3 (Qatar Television) will also be aired.
Ramadan projects outside Qatar include the Iftar tables initiative, which seeks to benefit some 1,043,136 people. The target areas are Syria, Bangladesh, Niger, India, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Mauritania, Indonesia, Yemen, Ethiopia, Nepal, Palestine, Sudan, Djibouti, Ghana, Benin, Chad, Comoros, Senegal, Kenya, Pakistan, Jordan, Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria, Iraq, Togo, the UK, Lebanon, Morocco, the Philippines, Bosnia, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, Kosovo and Albania.
The Eid clothes project seeks to benefit 1,960 orphans in 22 countries.
QC has allocated an estimated QR1,617,000 for Zakat al-Fitr and it is expected to benefit 107,800 people in 34 countries.
Donations can be made for the Qatar Charity Ramadan campaign through various means.
