The delegation that accompanied the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his two-day visit of Qatar has hailed the signing of as many as seven accords between the two countries.
At a briefing, Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (External Publicity) Vikas Swarup said the new accords would go a long way in cementing his country’s long standing relations with a friendly country as Qatar.
Answering a query, Swarup said the total value of the agreements signed between the two countries could not be assessed simply in monetary terms. “Figures are not that important and one needs to look at the numerous positive aspects involved in such initiatives,” he said.
A major agreement promising stringent action to prevent black money from reaching terrorists was among those signed between the two countries.
This was covered under the MoU on Finance Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) and Qatar Financial Information Unit (QFIU). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on co-operation in tourism under which entrepreneurs from this country would explore the possibility of investing in hospitality and hotel projects was also signed.
Agreements were also reached on more co-operation and mutual assistance in customs matters, investment in the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund, co-operation in the field of youth and sports, co-operation in skill development and recognition of qualifications, and co-operation in the field of health.
