Newly promoted Qatar Stars League side Al Shahania are set to sign Tunisian striker Saber Khalifa. The former Marseille player touched down in Doha on Monday night, ahead of negotiations and a medical. Khalifa is expected to sign a one year deal with the side. The club is currently looking to add further professional players to their ranks as Shahania prepare for their second ever season in the QSL.
The squad, who are managed by Spanish coach Miguel Lotina are now set to focus on pre-season training for the 2016/2017 QSL season.
Al Shahania will be ramping up their preparations by heading to Germany for a training camp, ahead of the start of the QSL season on the 15th of September.

Qatar SC season by numbers
It was a season to forget for Qatar SC, as they got to relegated to Qatar Gas League for the first time in their history. After a slow start to the season Qatar SC rallied and registered 27 points, including six wins and nine draws.
However, it wasn’t enough to see them beat the drop, eventually losing out on goal difference in the final game of the season. Qatar SC scored third least number of goals in the QSL with 31, also conceding the second most in the league with 51 goals. The fact that their top scorer this term was Mouchine Iajour with eight goals, a player who left in January tells its own story.  
A lack of defensive concentration was evident Qatar SC this term and frustratingly they conceded 9 goals in the first fifteen minutes of games, meaning that Sebastaio Lazaroni’s side never gave themselves the best chance in QSL games. South Korean international Kook Han Young was the Kings stand out player in an otherwise miserable season. The all action midfielder lead the way with the most passes over the course of the season with 1,281 this term. Whilst in the final third he provided the highest amount of assists than any other Qatar SC player.
However it was Kook’s running which really impressed this term. Han covered an impressive 313km of running over the course of the season. That equates to an average of 12km per game. Indeed, Han covered 13km of running an impressive five times this season, just highlighting the impressive work rate of the South Korean.  
Another player who had an impact for the Qatar SC was defender Rafik Halliche. The imposing defender was strong in the air and good in the tackle; however injury curtailed his playing time in January. The former Algerian international came back into the side towards the end of the season, which saw the side improve defensively, ultimately it was too little too late for Qatar SC.
Now facing a season in the Qatar Gas League, it will be a summer of overall at one of Qatar’s biggest clubs. The question is now can the Kings return to the Qatar Stars League at the first time of asking.

Al Rayyan renews QIC sponsorship
QSL Champions Al Rayyan has renewed their sponsorship agreement with Qatar Insurance Company for a further three seasons. The deal was signed on Sunday evening at Al Rayyan Sports Club, in the presence of Al Rayyan Chairman Sheikh Saud bin Khalid al-Thani and Salem bin Khalaf Vice Chairman of Qatar Insurance Company.
Speaking at the signing, Sheikh Saud was glad to continue the sponsorship agreement with the QIC; “I am pleased to conclude this deal, Qatar Insurance Company is one of the most prestigious and oldest companies in Qatar. Our success on the pitch this season is in part thanks to our relationship with our sponsors.”
Sheikh Saud also addressed questions in regards to players leaving the squad this season. “We will be keeping the majority of the squad that won the league title; the only exception is Mohammed Jumma who will be returning to parent club El Jaish.”
Salem bin Khalaf Vice Chairman of Qatar Insurance Company wished the club success in the defence of their QSL title. “I would like to congratulate Al Rayyan on their fantastic season, and wish them the best for their title defence.”
The Al Rayyan squad will now break for the summer, before starting their preseason training ahead of the start of the QSL season on the 15th of September.
