The Gorkha Service Society (GSS) has created a fund worth Nepali Rs2.8 million to support the schooling of orphaned children in Nepal.
GSS, founded in 2003, organised a programme last weekend to announce the creation of the fund. The programme was chaired by Chairperson Sudarshan Bhatta. Kumar Pant, the vice-chairperson of Non-Resident Nepalese Association-International Coordination Committee (NRNA-ICC), was the chief guest.
Pant praised GSS for the initiative and for their past philanthropic activities, especially during last year’s earthquake in Nepal. GSS leader Kailash Babu Shrestha said he expects the fund to be utilised transparently in Nepal.
GSS also felicitated organisations and individuals who contributed to the fund.
The programme ended with a cultural epilogue — artistes performed songs and dances to make the event more entertaining. The performers included Kiran Lama, Jagat Chunaro, Ajay Shrestha, Sija Rai, Ankit Pariyar, Santosh Banjara, and Simu. Seen here are the people who were felicitated at the programme.
