Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) Ramadan Iftar tent in Al Khor is expected to receive around 15,000 visitors this holy month.
The tent offers meals, religious sermons, and health and social advice to an average of 500 people in the district daily.
QRCS medics also conduct evening visits to mosques to hold health education and blood sugar/pressure tests for free.
These activities are part of QRCS’s effort to serve the local community in Al Shamal through health education lectures, first-aid courses, and various Ramadan projects.
Cash aid and food provisions will also be distributed to low-income families.
Under the “I Am a Paramedic” training programme, the QRCS branch offered two-day courses for 48 teachers, administrative staff, supervisors, and bus drivers of Al Khor Model School for Boys, as well as 20 students of Zubarah School for Boys, and 15 volunteers.
The trainees received theoretical and practical training in first aid skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to deal with cases of suffocation, bleeding, fracture, burn, nosebleed, and eye injuries. The courses concluded with quizzes and question-and-answer sessions.
The QRCS branch also hosted a lecture on diabetes for 55 students of Al Khor Preparatory School for Girls, and a lecture on obesity for 15 teachers and administrative staff of Umm Salal Ali for Boys, and a third one for the staff and volunteers of Qatar Guest Centre.
As part of the QRCS School Programme, a lecture was also held for the students of Abdullah bin Ali Al-Misnad Independent Secondary School for Boys to raise awareness about good nutrition and healthy foods such as grains, fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy milk, and eggs.
Faculty members were advised to urge students throughout the year to observe good dietary habits, especially breakfast.
