Qatar Extreme Sports (QES) organised the fourth edition of Go Skateboarding Day recently in Doha, giving many players and enthusiasts in Doha an opportunity to showcase their skills.
QES founder and patron Farhan al-Sayed, who has been supporting skateboarding, longboarding, BMX biking and cycling, said Go Skateboarding Day is held simultaneously in major cities across the world, such as New York, London, Paris, Tokyo and Sydney, among others.
He noted that the event also aims to promote and create awareness about the sport, longboarding, BMX biking, rollerblading and parkour, which are becoming popular in Qatar.
“We want the youth to live a healthy lifestyle by involving them in sports, especially in outdoor activities,” al-Sayed stressed.
Such endeavours, he added, would also help the youth stay away from gadgets such as smartphones and tablets as well as online games.
The QES founder, son of the first cycling champion in Qatar, also vowed to support similar events in the future. “We are working hard to further promote these kinds of sports in the country,” he said.
The skateboarding event was dominated by Patrick and Charles. Patrick won in the Best Run and Highest Ollie category while Charles excelled in the Game of Skate and Longest Ollie events.
Al-Sayed said the longboarding event had some amazing participants with Alon emerging as the winner in the Best Run and Slide Jam while Prince Sherwin took honours in the Slalom event.
QES hosted the first longboard championship in the country in April at the Doha Corniche Park. It is expected to organise a series of similar competitions in the coming months.
