Temperature soars to 48C in Doha areas

After a scorching Saturday when the temperature soared to a staggering 48C, Qatar is likely to experience strong winds and dusty conditions on Sunday along with another hot day, the weather office has said in its report.
The wind speed may go up to 45 knots in some inshore areas at times and 35 knots in offshore areas, according to the Qatar Met department.
On Saturday, the mercury level went up to 48C in the Abu Hamour and Qatar University areas of Doha, followed by 47C in Turayna and Sheehaniya, 46C in the Doha airport area, Mesaieed, Batna, Al Khor and Karana, and 45C in Jumayliya and Ghuwayriya.
The maximum temperature on Sunday is expected to reach 44C in Al Khor and 43C in Doha, Mesaieed and Wakrah.
Meanwhile, the Met department said strong winds were expected across the country along with poor visibility due to dust. Visibility may drop to 1km or less in some places at times.
The weather office also issued a warning for strong winds and high seas in offshore areas. The sea level may increase to 13ft at times and slightly dusty conditions are also expected.
Earlier, the Met department had said the effect of northwesterly winds would continue until Wednesday, with fresh to strong winds blowing across the country during this period.
These conditions are likely to reach their peak from Sunday until Tuesday, resulting in blowing dust and low visibility at many places, according to the weather office.
