QOC chief meets Japanese envoy
HE the Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Dr Abdulrahman bin Thani al-Kuwari met Japan’s ambassador to Qatar Shingo Tsuda in Doha yesterday.
They reviewed aspects of co-operation between Qatar and Japan in the field of sports and ways of developing it.
HE Dr Abdulrahman bin Thani al-Kuwari hailed the bilateral relations between Doha and Tokyo as well as co-operation between them.
‘Human Creation in the Holy Qur’an’ exhibitions begin tomorrow
Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation will host a slew of exhibitions as part of its Ramadan Festival, under the theme “Human Creation in the Holy Qur’an”, from tomorrow.
Katara’s Ramadan Festival features 75 types of activities that will take place across the Cultural Village.
Katara will host 14 “innovative” exhibitions focused on the human body. These include an exhibition on blood and arteries in Building 18, where 3D images of arteries and their functions will be displayed to visitors. Exhibitions focusing on the eyes and ears and their functions will also be held in Building 18. Besides, exhibitions on the teeth, skin and nutrition will welcome Katara visitors during the Ramadan Festival.
Motorist fined for injuring motorbike rider
A Doha Criminal Court has fined a Lebanese motorist to QR10,000 for crashing into a motorbike and injuring its Nepalese rider, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
The defendant was also ordered to pay QR20,000 to his victim in collaboration with the insurance company concerned as compensation for the injuries sustained causing him 20% physical disability. Besides, the court ordered the victim to pay a fine of QR500 for failing to observe proper driving practices on the public road.
The motorist was driving at a speed of over 100km/h on a road with a speed limit of 80km/h and hence could not exercise full control of his car when the cyclist suddenly changed his lane.
Cigarette thieves get suspended jail sentence
Two Sri Lankan men got a six-month suspended jail sentence for stealing a number of cigarette packets, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
A Doha Criminal Court also ordered that the sentence shall be suspended for three years from the date the verdict becomes final.
The issue started when a supermarket manager reported to the police that two men were spotted in the surveillance cameras recording stealing a number of cigarette packets.
At the interrogation, they admitted stealing eight packets of cigarettes and tried to conceal them within their clothes. However, the court decided to give them a light sentence due to their clean record and the circumstances that accompanied their arrest and detention.
Ministry recalls Honda motorcycle
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, in collaboration with Doha Marketing Services Company (Domasco), has announced the recall of Honda Motorcycle VT750CSFGS models of 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015 due to a flaw in the angle sensor wiring harness.
The MEC said the recall campaign comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that car dealers follow up on vehicles’ defects and repair them. The MEC will co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on the maintenance and repair works and communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out. The MEC has urged all customers to report any violations to its Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department.
