Sidra Medical and Research Centre has announced the appointment of HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari as a member of its Board of Governors.
Lord Darzi of Denham, the vice chair of the Board of Governors and the chair of the Executive Committee of Sidra said HE Dr al-Kuwari’s counsel will help strengthen Sidra’s strategic approach to meeting the healthcare needs of the children and women of Qatar.
“HE Dr al-Kuwari’s appointment comes at a crucial time as we launch new clinics and services at our recently opened Outpatient clinic while continuing progress with the main hospital commissioning.”
HE Dr al-Kuwari was appointed the minister of public health in 2016.
She is also the managing director of Hamad Medical Corporation, where she has been credited with transforming the organisation into an integrated academic health system that has achieved numerous awards and international accreditation.
HE Dr al-Kuwari said with a strong patient and family centred focus, Sidra will be at the forefront of delivering excellent patient care to the women and children of Qatar as well as being a centre for world class research and education.
“I am delighted to be appointed to the Board of Governors and look forward to working collaboratively both with the board and the wider Sidra organisation.”
HE Dr al-Kuwari is a visiting professor at Imperial College London and is an accomplished speaker and thought leader in the healthcare industry in the region.
In addition to being a board member at Sidra, she holds several other board memberships in Qatar, including with the Joint Commission International; Middle East Advisory Council; the Association of Academic Health Centres International Steering Committee and the Institute of Global Health Innovation.
She is also the chairperson of the board for Qatar Biobank.
