Qatar Primary Materials Company will continue to supply “dune sand” to all clients and contractors in Qatar, the company said yesterday. 
QPMC yesterday said it holds “rich reserves” that can meet the current market requirements for dune sand, as well as all the other primary materials such as gabbro and washed sand. 
QPMC said the decision to supply “dune sand” to all clients and contractors in Qatar is part of the company’s strategy to “ensure consistent reserves of primary materials” for the benefit of the construction industry in the country. Also, it ensures “price stability of primary materials and creates a competitive environment, limits monopolies and boosts transparency in the industry.” 
QPMC chief executive officer Eisa al-Hammadi said, “One of our primary targets is to maintain strategic reserves of primary materials. To achieve this we constantly study the market and analyse our own data to ensure that we can supply materials at any time when the need arises. 
“At QPMC, we hold rich reserves that can address the current market requirements when it comes to dune sand, as well as all the other primary materials such as gabbro and washed sand. We are committed to providing complete solutions for the transport, storage and delivery of key primary materials to facilitate the burgeoning construction industry in Qatar.” 
QPMC is responsible for the excavation of high-quality dune sand in Qatar. The company works in assigned areas in the south. 
The company said it uses “international best practice” techniques, which reflects its “dedication to deliver high quality primary materials,” while considering the environmental impact of its processes and ensuring the maintenance of natural reserves. 
QPMC also has the required capacity and equipment to meet any increasing demand for dune sand and other materials. The company said it supplies approximately 40,000 cubic metres of dune sand, which is equivalent to 2,000 truckloads of materials.
QPMC was established on the instruction of the Qatari government in 2006 to provide “efficient port service” at the gabbro berths and develop them to increase capacity and manage larger volumes of primary materials import to facilitate trade. 
The company said it has the capability to design, develop and operate project jetties at the developer’s request for government projects, and is responsible for creating strategic stockpiles of aggregates for the Government in Mesaieed. 
QPMC produces washed sand and regulates the sale of dune sand in Qatar for the local market, and is constructing cement silos at the gabbro berths to store and discharge over 2mn tonnes of imported cement annually to meet any increased demand.
