The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has detected 10 consumer violations at retail outlets across the country, as part of an intensive inspection campaign, in the second week of the holy month of Ramadan.
The MEC inspections covered more than 1,320 outlets, including Ramadan tents, cafes, meat stores, fish outlets, clothes and accessories shops among others, according to a statement.
The violations include charging higher prices than the ones mentioned on the tag, not displaying the promotion licence copy in a clear manner, increasing the set price for subsidised Australian mutton and other similar violations.
The retail outlets concerned have been issued a violation report each. The penalties for such offences range from a fine of QR3,000 up to QR1mn as well as the administrative closure of outlets for
varying periods.
The ministry’s inspectors have been keen to ensure that retailers and shopping malls abide by the terms and conditions of the special offers and promotion licences granted to them, and suppliers comply with the list of reduced-price items for Ramadan, the statement notes.
