The Federation of Nepalese Journalists-Qatar Chapter (FNJ-Qatar) recently organised a one-day “Leadership Development, Capacity Enhancement and Basic Journalism” training session. The crash course on journalism attracted some 170 enthusiasts, most of whom were representatives of various community organisations in Qatar.
Yagesh, editor at ekantipur.com and co-ordinator of Kosheli, the Saturday supplement of Kantipur Daily, had come from Kathmandu to provide the basic tricks of the journalism trade. Hom Karki of Kantipur Gulf Weekly taught the participants how to present the news effectively.
FNJ-Qatar President Ganesh Prasad Banjade chaired and Secretary Nawaraj BK hosted the programme. Certificates were given to the participants at the end.
Later in the day, the same venue also served as host to Nepalese poets attending an event jointly organised by the International Nepalese Literature Society-Qatar and Nabodit Literature Library. This was the 85th session in their series of literary readings. The readings, except for this instance, are organised on the second Friday of each month. Yagesh attended the programme.
The participants recited their poems, songs and ghazals at the programme, while the guests gave speeches on the importance and activities of Nepalese literary diaspora.
Writers Tirtha Sangam Rai, Rabi Roshi, Rajan Rai, Deep Milan, Om Dahal, Purna Gurung, Santosh Adhikari, Rabindra Shrestha, Rajeshwor Dhakal, Kamal Jalan, Nirajan Prabhat and Sumitra Lamichhane recited their poems.
Arjun Ghimire, Sajan Lama, Shyam Ranabhat, Tika Khadka, Lekh Karki, Prem Prasad and Ishwor Shahi read their ghazals.
