QRCS brings succour to Syrians, Palestinians in Lebanon

As part of 2016 Ramadan Iftar programme, Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) mission in Lebanon has launched a campaign to distribute daily meals and food packages to Syrian refugees in Arsal.
Part of the campaign includes distributing food packages to Palestinian refugee camps across the country, including basic food items needed for those who fast during the holy month.
Omar Katerji, head of QRCS mission in Lebanon said: “This year, the Ramadan projects come in slightly better climate conditions compared to the past year, but not so in terms of the living conditions. These projects are dispersed in Arsal, Sidon, Tyre, Baalbek, Tripoli, Akkar, and Beirut.”
According to Katerji, the intervention involves distributing food packages, each sufficient for one family for one month, as well as distributing freshly cooked meals every day for Syrian refugees through a catering hub established by QRCS in Arsal.
Hussein Hamdan, relief co-ordinator and media consultant of QRCS mission in Lebanon, said the 2016 Ramadan campaign is geographically far-reaching and targeting more Syrian refugees.
He highlighted the diversity of aid offered including fresh meals and food packages, in addition to the focus on Arsal to cover as many refugees as possible.
Hamdan said the plans to distribute more than 5,000 meals every day across the camps, totalling 157,000 throughout the holy month and another 8,000 food packages to Syrian and Palestinian refugees.
“The mission diversified the packages to contain the basic items used by refugees on a daily basis,” he noted.
