A Ramadan campaign of Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) volunteers division is expected to benefit thousands of workers in the country.
For the fifth consecutive year, the division conducts a Ramadan Iftar programme for municipality workers at the Industrial Area, which involves distributing 300 Iftar meals per day - 9,000 meals in total throughout the holy month - in partnership with The Ritz Carlton Hotel and New Special Kitchen.
In a press statement, QRCS said their volunteers have been working hard to implement the campaign since the beginning of the holy month with several Ramadan Iftar activities at a total cost of QR240,000.
A total of 10,000 water bottles donated by DoubleTree Hotel and 400kg of dates donated by Doha Dates are distributed throughout the month.
These distributions are estimated to benefit more than 9,000 cleaners and road workers in Qatar.
In addition, QRCS volunteers also distribute water bottles and dates to visitors of the Grand Mosque during Iftar time, in co-operation with DoubleTree Hotel.
The volunteers take part in organising events and programmes by other QRCS departments such as ‘This Is My Wish' to fulfill the wishes of ill children; ‘Recite and Ascend’ to honour the students who memorise the Glorious Quran; and ‘Outstanding Students’ to honour the students with high academic achievements; among others.
“For the fifth year in a row, thousands of Doha municipality workers receive healthy food from QRCS.
It is a noble humanitarian message that embodies the spirit of solidarity in the Qatari society and reflects QRCS's slogan of Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity,” QRCS executive director Fahad bin Mohammed al-Naimi said.
Al-Naimi thanked the initiative of The Ritz Carlton (QRCS's hospitality partner), DoubleTree Hotel, and New Special Kitchen in sponsoring the programme.
He hopes such partnerships will continue as they have a good impact on all segments of society.
The QRCS official also lauded good spirit and great efforts of volunteers in contributing to the Ramadan campaign.
“We are proud of our volunteers who do their best in benevolence, help of others, and deepening of brotherly and human bonds with vulnerable groups.
So, they deserve our encouragement and hail for the great reward of their good deeds in the holy month of Ramadan,” he stressed.
