The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has intensified its inspection campaign for the third consecutive week of the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign has so far covered more than 1,400 outlets across the country, selling various consumer goods such as accessories, clothes, foodstuff, vegetables and fruits.
The MEC inspectors spotted 19 different violations of law number 8 for 2008 on consumer protection, including increasing prices of sold items without prior permits from the department concerned, not posting proper price tags and other related violations.
Violators could face a fine of QR3,000 and up to QR1mn, besides the administrative closure of the outlet for different periods determined by MEC according to the type and gravity of the violation.
