Dahham raced to an easy win in the Qatar Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes (Gr1 PA) in Chantilly, France, yesterday.
The colt, owned by Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed al-Nahyan, initially was held up towards the rear. On to the straight, he was still full of running but, without being asked too much by jockey Alexandre Gavilan, he quickly went lengths clear of his rivals.
Dahham was coming off a victorious debut in a Listed at Toulouse.
“He is a horse who will keep improving,” his trainer, Didier Guillemin, said. “He did it very well today. He could run over further as he doesn’t pull. We may well try him over 2,000 metres even though he is very happy over 1,600 metres. He came past them very easily. His jockey nearly had to take a pull in the straight.”
Al Shaqab Racing’s Lwsail, caught flat-footed coming into the straight, picked up well to come and take second from Brama de Pompadour. Lwsail, who was ridden by Julien Auge yesterday, had also won on his career debut in Bordeaux in May.
“I am happy with his race,” Lwsail’s trainer Thomas Fourcy said. “He looked empty coming into the straight, but picked back up well. The winner looks very good and my horse is still immature. He doesn’t have the strength to get out of this kind of ground.”
