Sales of apparel to ‘surge further’

Sales of apparel at most outlets in Qatar are expected to surge further in the coming days as the holy month of Ramadan completes its third week, it is learnt.
“We expect more shoppers to buy clothes from the start of the fourth week of Ramadan onwards,” a manager at a popular retail chain told Gulf Times.
He said it is that time of the year when many residents attend family gatherings, children’s parties, Suhoor and other events and also gear up for the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Ramadan is considered as a peak season for clothing retailers and outlets in Qatar and other countries in the GCC region, according to the manager.
Last year, he disclosed that one of their branches earned around QR2.5mn in four weeks from the start of the holy month.
He said the demand for children’s apparel is particularly high during this season.
“During Ramadan, gift-giving is a tradition for many residents of Qatar and they prefer to give such items as gifts,” the manager noted. “Beautifully designed children’s clothes with shiny and glittering features are in high demand.”
As salaries for this month are expected to be disbursed early for many residents, he is expecting a large number of shoppers to throng apparel outlets at various locations, including their branches.
The manager estimates that they will surpass their record last year based on the footfall and the timing of Ramadan this year.
He added that their ongoing promotion, including a recently held raffle draw, have been enticing many to shop for clothes.
A merchandiser at a leading hypermarket echoed the statements of the manager, saying  they usually surpass their record during Ramadan.
“Our apparel section is the busiest nowadays because a lot of people want to wear new dresses, especially children,” he said.
Besides attending gatherings, he noted that many buy new clothes to prepare for the Eid holidays and trips abroad.
Other than clothes, the merchandiser said sales of shoes for children, toys and kitchenware also surge during the holy month.
