A motorist has been fined QR10,000 and his driving licence suspended for a month for accidentally driving his vehicle into a shop, causing one person’s death and severe injuries to another, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
The incident happened while the motorist was trying to park his vehicle outside a shop. He pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal, sending the vehicle speeding and crashing into the shop.
The court also ordered the defendant to pay a sum of QR200,000 as blood money to the legal inheritor of the deceased man, in collaboration with the insurance company concerned.
The court convicted the motorist of reckless driving and observed that according to the investigation reports the accident could have been prevented.
