Majeed, who represents Umm Qarn’s colours, raced to victory in the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup (Gr3 PA) in Duindigt, Netherlands, yesterday.
Alban de Mieulle’s pupil was up against a high quality lot and had to battle for victory against Sir Bani Yas, winner of the Qatar International Stakes (Gr1 PA) last year. Lightning Bolt finished third.
Majeed had already won on this track, very easily but at a lower level, two weeks ago. After an excellent season in Qatar, where he won two races, Majeed has continued performing well in the season.
“The horse already knew the racecourse because he won here two weeks ago,” said Frenchman De Mieulle.
“But the level of his rivals was much higher this time. The pace was maybe not fast enough for him, but he did it well and Gaetan Faucon rode him well, coming progressively. He has kept progressing well with age. He needs a good ground.
The rest of his programme could be in Newbury, but we will see how he recovers from this race and how the ground is. He has won his ticket to the Qatar Arabian World Cup.”
