Total Energy Summer School 2016 (TESS), for the first time, will bring together students, leading academics and industry experts from all over the world to explore future challenges and solutions for the energy industry.
From Qatar, Total will welcome three professors and three students to the event, to be held in Fontainebleau near Paris, France, from July 10-13.
The professors are Dr Mohamed al-Safran and Dr Nasser al-Emadi from Qatar University (QU) and Konstantinos Kokosimos from Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq), while the students are Abdulla Abuhaliqa from Tamuq and Noor Yusuf and Zainab al-Hajri from QU.
The delegations from Qatar will meet a cohort of 80 other students and 40 professors from all over the world, as well as experts and managers from Total.
The event, held under the theme, “The future of Energy starts with you,” will focus on new global energy challenges and their impact on the sector and the world of education.
The students and professors recently met Total E&P Qatar’s managing director and group executive, Guillaume Chalmin, as well as senior executives from the company’s HR & CSR departments.
While emphasising that knowledge is the key to future success, Chalmin considers TESS “as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the education sector and the energy industries, which is key to properly prepare the future leaders of our industry”.
Yousef al-Jaber, head of CSR and institutional relations at Total E&P Qatar, added: “Such events that we organise on a yearly basis allow the participants to have access to a great network among international educational institutes and the energy sector.”
The students and professors will follow parallel yet related programmes with opportunities to come together during the event. They will explore how industry and education can work together to prepare students with the skills they’ll need for the new energy future.
Through the Total Energy Summer School, the company aims to “create a dynamic global community where leading educators work together with industry stakeholders to develop the energy leaders and experts of the future”, according to a statement from Total.
