Ashghal opens new bridge at Izghawa Interchange

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has opened a new bridge to traffic for commuters heading to Doha via the North Road Corridor. The new bridge is located at Izghawa Interchange, as an integrated part of North Road Enhancement Project.

Izghawa Interchange and its surroundings have been witnessing large-scale reconfigurations to create better road access; and approximately, 80% of the works at the site are completed, with the rest set for completion by the end of the year.

The bridge acts as a key connection that would enhance traffic flow for motorists coming from Duhail area and the north side of Qatar University.

Once construction is complete, the Izghawa Interchange also will provide better access to local roads as well as alleviate traffic congestion at the north side of Doha Golf Club, West Bay, Luqtifia, Al Khor Coastal Road, and the northwestern side of Lusail Development Project.

Also, the intersection will be adding additional local access roads to serve smooth flowing traffic into Al Gharrafa, the southwestern side of the Education City, Al Kharaytiat and Umm Salal Mohamed in the northwestern side.

The contractor of the North Road enhancement project has also achieved 10 million man hours without Loss Time Injury.

The project encompasses the construction of service roads along the North Road Road from north of Doha city at Al Duhail Interchange to Al Shamal city north of Qatar. The project also includes the construction of two new interchanges in Izghawa and Umm Salal Mohamed areas, in addition to improvements to three existing interchanges, including Al Kaaban Interchange which connects to Al Huwailah Link Road.

Al Khor Road will also be upgraded with a link road provided between the North Road and Umm Birkah Road. A cycle path will be constructed along the length of the North Road. The roads, around 95.2km long, are designed to enhance the connection with the new development projects near the highway.
