As Ramadan nears end, the number of people visiting the ‘Human Creation in the Holy Qur’an’ exhibition’s health points has increased manifold.
Observers at the health check-up points established in different buildings of Katara Cultural Village hope the number of people benefiting from this Ramadan initiative by Katara Cultural Foundation will be in thousands.
At the exhibition being held as part of Katara’s Ramadan festival, people also discover the wisdom of creation of humans as described in the Qur’an through various events and activities.
“We cannot reveal the exact number of people visiting our stalls at this moment but we are hoping that this number will be in thousands by the end of the holy month. Audiometry and Physiotherapy are attracting the most visitors,” Altaf Khan, Corporate and Public Relations Officer, Naseem Al Rabeeh Medical Centre, tells Community.
The medical centre has established five stalls here, where they have teams from four health departments — audiometry, heart, dental and physiotherapy. A majority of the people visiting have been interested in getting to know about hearing problems and issues related to different body pains.
“Through our stalls we are educating people about different health problems and what measures they can take to prevent such problems from happening,” says Khan.
They are basically spreading awareness about health issues that people may face here in Qatar and the health experts are advising visitors on healthy lifestyle.
“Our specialist doctors and medical experts are there at all stalls and they are available here in Katara during the month of Ramadan to provide free medical advice and awareness about health problems,” says Khan, adding that the medical centre is participating in this campaign through the Katara initiative.
The dentistry stall is in Building 13, with a dental specialist on hand to examine people and provide them with tips on dental hygiene. He is educating people particularly the children on how to maintain oral health by adopting certain habits, says Khan.
Most of the people visiting the physiotherapist have been concerned about their weight. The expert present at the stall takes their weight and height measurements and advise them on how much weight they need to reduce, based on their Body Mass Index.
Some people have complaints of pain in their hands, symptoms of tennis elbow or back pain that goes all the way to their legs. In some cases, the expert advises them to go meet a doctor and take proper treatment, besides suggesting exercises or physiotherapy sessions.
In Qatar, the expert at the physiotherapy stall says, most complaints they receive are cervical and Lamba strains, usually caused at work. These stresses in the neck and back usually come from the sitting postures of the people at their jobs.
People do not take regular breaks and in these cases, the treatment will take time to show results. The results though have been really good. There are many handy exercises that you can do during your time at the workstation to avoid getting such problems, he adds.
These include taking regular breaks from sitting in one particular posture and doing some simple neck, hands and finger exercises to relax the muscles. These are small 1-2 minute breaks that can help prevent such pains.
With 4D giant diagrams of ears and eyes all around him in Building 18, an audiologist from Naseem Al Rabeeh Medical Centre is present with all the necessary equipment to provide free hearing check-ups.
The expert checks the hearing levels of the people and issues a detailed report to them along with advice on what to do in case there are any problems found in the check.
In case, they need a medical practitioner’s assistance, he would refer them to an ENT specialist or he would give them some hearing improvement tips, according to their hearing loss level.
