A surge in shoppers in the run-up to Eid al-Fitr

Eid promos provide more savings for consumers

Major stores and hypermarkets have launched a variety of promotions and special offers, providing shoppers not only with more choices but also extra savings in the run-up to the celebration of Eid al-Fitr next week.

As early as Thursday, LuLu Hypermarket along D-Ring Road experienced a surge in customers, deputy general manager Abdul Manaf KP told Gulf Times yesterday. The same observation was expressed by personnel from other stores like Al Meera, Safari Mall, and Family Food Centre.

Manaf said a wide range of supermarket items and food stuffs are among the top products on most shoppers’ grocery lists, which will be used for Eid celebrations and family gatherings. These items range from fresh meats, eggs, cooking oil, rice, and assorted nuts, among others.

However, Manaf said demand is also high for other products like perfumes, toys, garments, luggage, and electronics, which, according to him, are purchased by many vacation-bound expatriates.

“Eid is also ‘vacation season’ for many expatriates, and many people are buying these products and household essentials to bring home as gifts to their families,” he explained.

According to Manaf, LuLu’s “Bon Voyage” promotion on luggage offers special discounts on all brands. “For example, on every purchase of Delsey luggage products worth QR300, customers will get a LuLu gift voucher worth QR75 (Valid until July 25, 2016),” he said.

American Tourister, meanwhile, is offering a QR50 LuLu gift voucher for every purchase of its luggage products worth QR200 (Until July 9). Similarly, Targus is giving a QR30 voucher on every purchase of its laptop bags and accessories worth QR100 (Until July 27), while Wagon R is promoting a “Buy 1 & Get Next 1 Half Price” offer until July 16. The “LuLu Toy Fair 2016” is offering gift vouchers worth QR50 for any toy worth QR150 (Until July 10).

Safari Mall has launched a “Buy 2 get 1” promo on readymade garments and footwear, while Family Food Centre is promoting discount offers on select household items, luggage, and clothing.

Asked if stocks are sufficient for the season, Manaf said: “As in Ramadan, our preparations for the celebration Eid are the same. We submit our list of stocks and other sought after products ahead of time to our suppliers to make sure that we are able to fulfill our commitment to our customers.”

Manaf also said LuLu has tapped its local and international suppliers, including those in the UK, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India. He added that stocks are kept at the company’s warehouse at the Logistics Village.
