Expat drug dealer gets 5-year jail

A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Yemeni expatriate man to five years in jail and subsequent deportation for drug consumption and dealing in illicit drugs.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Tuesday that the court also fined him QR200,000 for the same charges. The Drug Prevention Department of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) had received information that the defendant used to sell and consume illicit amphetamine pills.
Accordingly, an undercover policeman approached him asking for some such pills. The defendant agreed to sell him the pills for a certain sum of money. At the time and place of the delivery, the defendant brought with him a good number of amphetamine pills and gave them to the undercover policeman in exchange for the agreed some of money. Policemen who were watching the process from a hidden location arrested the suspect as soon as the delivery took place .
Upon further search of his vehicle and accommodation, more pills worth QR25,000 were found. Also, the money given to him by the officer, QR8,000, were found with him. A blood test conducted on the defendant revealed that he had consumed the illicit drug.
