The court also ordered his subsequent deportation upon serving the sentence, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
The defendant was arrested after he received a package from his home country. When the package arrived in Doha, the officer in charge at the air cargo Customs doubted its content as the scanning machine showed the presence of suspicious objects inside.
Accordingly, the defendant was contacted to receive the consignment and asked to open it in the presence of some officials. When the package was opened, 987 pills of methamphetamine were found packed inside bottles of soft drinks. The package also contained a number of accessories and mobile phones.
