The Rayyan Municipality has topped the list of municipalities in Qatar that received the most building permits in June 2016, data from the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) revealed.
In its 18th issue of the monthly Statistics Building Permits issued by all municipalities in Qatar, the MDPS said 172 building permits (or 32% of the total permits issued) were issued in the Rayyan Municipality.
Next in the list was the municipality of Doha with 129 permits or (24%), followed by Al Wakrah Municipality, 86 permits (16%); Al Da’ayen, 59 permits (11%); Umm Slal, 43 permits (8%); Al Khor, 39 permits (7%); and Al Shamal, eight permits (2%).
In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 54% (286 permits) of the total building permits issued in June, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 43% (232 permits), and fencing permits
with only 3% (18 permits).
Analysis of the new residential buildings permits data revealed that villas’ permits topped the list, accounting for 62% (156 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans at 25% (62 permits), and apartments
buildings 11% (28 permits).
On the other hand, mosques buildings were at the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 31% (11 permits), followed by commercial buildings with 29% (10 permits), industrial buildings such as workshops and factories with 26% (nine permits), and government buildings
with 14% (five permits).
The MDPS said the number of permits issued in June dropped 19% compared to the previous month. The decrease was noted in most of the municipalities: Doha 31%, Rayyan 14%, Wakrah 9%, Al Daayen 34%, Al Khor 9%, and Al Shamal 11%. Umm Slal, the MDPS noted, was an exception
recording an increase of 13%.
The MDPS noted the importance of building permits, saying that it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector, which, in turn, “occupies a significant position in the national economy.”
According to the MDPS, the monthly data is a joint-effort with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to make use of the existing electronic link
between the two ministries.
