Two Vietnamese girls switched at birth have been returned to their biological parents after three years, local media reported on Tuesday.
The baby girls were accidentally given to the wrong parents at a hospital in southern Binh Long province after their births on January 10, 2013, Thanh Nien newspaper reported.
The switch was discovered when the grandfather of one of the babies saw a child in a nearby town in May who had a striking resemblance to his daughter and her husband.
After learning that another couple had had their child at the same hospital on the same day, the parents took their girls to Ho Ch Minh City for DNA tests, which confirmed their true parentage.
"It breaks our hearts that we have been unable to care for our real daughter for the last three years. We both feel ill thinking about it," 36-year-old father Vu Dinh Khien said.
