The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued an advisory for the crew and operators of marine vessels as part of its efforts to maintain safety and prevent border violations.
The measures listed in the advisory are to be followed during fishing as well as pleasure trips, the ministry has said.
According to an announcement posted on the MoI’s social media outlets yesterday, the General Administration of Coasts & Borders Security has urged the “crews of vessels of all types and sizes to abide by the tips, guidelines and instructions” with the aim of spreading awareness among sea-goers.
The crew must produce identification documents along with the required papers and permits for the vessel at Coast Guard registration centres in Doha, Al Safliya, Al Aaliya, Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Al Ruwais.
All vessels should have the necessary maritime communication sets and safety equipment, such as life jackets, life rafts, lifebuoys and boats, which should be available in adequate numbers for passengers and crew on board.
Boat users must also make sure that the vessel is seaworthy by ensuring the correct weight, in line with its size and length, and having the proper navigational lights, according to the advisory.
The MoI has stressed that crews and operators of vessels should respect maritime borders between Qatar and neighbouring states and must not cross or approach the same. Besides, they should not approach restricted areas or oil & gas fields and platforms.
“All vessels shall have maritime positioning systems, such as GPS, electronic maps, etc, and Rules of the Road (ROR) systems”, the advisory further said.
Boat users should also preserve the maritime environment and avoid causing any type of pollution, the ministry added.
In conclusion, the advisory reiterates that all crews and operators of marine vessels must follow the instructions issued by the General Administration of Coasts & Borders Security.
