Qatar and Argentine agree to expand co-operation

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, at the invitation of Argentine’s President Mauricio Macri, paid an official visit along with a high-level delegation to Argentine on Thursday.

The visit helped in enhancing friendship and co-operation ties between the two countries, which started 42 years ago.
The two leaders held a round of official talks characterised by a spirit of understanding and keenness on developing relations on all fronts. They also expressed their satisfaction at the good level that bilateral ties between the two countries have reached in the political, economic and investment arenas.
During the visit, a number of memoranda of understanding were signed, namely: A memorandum of understanding on mutual co-operation in the field of diplomatic training; a memorandum of understanding on holding political consultations; a memorandum of understanding on co-operation in the legal field; the two sides agreed to accelerate the review of the following agreements and memoranda of understanding; a draft agreement on the stimulation and protection of mutual investments; a draft agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion, in preparation for signing it as soon as possible; a draft memorandum of understanding on technical co-operation; a draft memorandum of understanding on co-operation in the agricultural field; a draft memorandum of understanding on co-operation in the field of education, higher education and scientific research; a draft memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the sports field.
In addition, the two sides also agreed on the importance of exchanging ideas and views as well as exploring opportunities in order to achieve more progress and prosperity for peoples of both countries. A Qatari economic delegation will visit Argentina to examine investment opportunities, particularly in the field of oil and gas, minerals, real estate, tourism and infrastructure.
The two sides were keen on the significance of co-ordination towards issues at stake on the regional and international fronts. They stressed the importance of stability in the Middle East and voiced their concern regarding the humanitarian repercussions of the ongoing disputes in the region, reaffirming their rejection of all forms of terrorism, and the need to disseminate a culture of peace.
As for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the two sides stressed the importance of reaching a just, comprehensive and final solution that takes into consideration the relevant resolutions issued by the United Nations as well as the importance of the Arab Peace Initiative.
HH the Emir expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to President Mauricio Macri for the warm reception and hospitality that he and the accompanying delegation received.
