Health minister inaugurates Medical Centre in Industrial Area

As part of the government’s efforts to provide "comprehensive health services to workers where they are located", the Minister of Public Health (MOPH) , HE Dr. Hanan Mohammad al-Kuwari has inaugurated Al Hemaila Medical Centre in the Industrial Area.

Equipped to receive up to 24,000 visiting patients per month, the new centre will be operated by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) under an agreement with the MOPH. The new medical facility is the second expatriate workers’ health centre to be opened this year after the Mesaimeer Health Center, which was opened on May 6.

Al Hemaila Medical Center includes 11 general clinics, in addition to specialised clinics in the fields of cardiology, dentistry, ophthalmology, radiology, echo, and two inpatient clinics. The centre also has sections for acute cases, minor surgeries and bandage, laboratory, pharmacy and triage.

Speaking after opening the hospital, HE Dr. Hanan al-Kuwari said the MOPH was keen on “providing workers with comprehensive health services where they are located”. The minister said the inauguration of Al Hemaila Medical Centre came as part of the government's plan to expand medical services to meet the health needs of Qatar’s growing population.

In this regard, the minister pointed out the opening of three primary health centres this month, two of which are health and wellness centres affiliated to the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC). She also highlighted the several health projects that are currently in their final phases and when complete, will contribute towards the development of “our health system and provision of high-standard health services for citizens and residents”.

For the workers, a number of health projects are set to be inaugurated during the next phase. These include three hospitals, a specialised centre for diabetes-associated diseases and a medical commission unit at Ras Laffan.

HE Dr. Hanan al-Kuwari added that the health projects were an integral part of the efforts exerted to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, which states “Qatar aspires to develop an integrated system for healthcare, managed according to world-class standards ... All health services [of this system] will be accessible to the entire population”.

She thanked the Private Engineering Office which constructed the centre and has been participating in the construction of a number of important health projects.

Fahad bin Mohammed al-Naimi, QRCS Executive Director and Acting Secretary General expressed his pleasure in attending the official opening ceremony of Al Hemaila Medical Center for workers. He said the Centre was the latest in joint achievements of the Ministry of public health and the Qatari Red Crescent. “The Ministry of Public Health has thankfully entrusted us with the mission of managing and running a series of health centres and units of Medical Commission, in the framework of the strategic partnership between the two entities,” he added.
