Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe left for Indonesia on Monday to attend the 12th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF).
During his visit, Wickremesinghe will hold discussions with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and will meet other leaders on the sidelines of the summit, Xinhua news agency cited from a statement by Prime Minister’s Office.
This is Wickremesinghe’s first visit to Indonesia after being sworn in as the country’s Prime Minister in August 2015.
Prime Minister Wickramasinghe will make a special address at the inaugural session of the WIEF scheduled to take place from August 2-4 at the Jakarta Convention Centre, in Jakarta.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Sri Lankan prime minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Maritime Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The Sri Lankan premier will also meet several state leaders including the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Najith Tun Abdul Razak and Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. PM will also hold discussions with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jawad al-Anani.
The prime minister will be accompanied by Prof Maithri Wickremesinghe, Minister of Public Enterprises Development Kabir Hashim, State Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation A H M Fouzie and the State Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Sujeewa Senasinghe.
