Population falls 6% in July, lowest this year

Qatar’s population at the end of last month fell by around 6% as compared to June but increased by 9.73% from July 2015, according to data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

The country recorded a population of 2,326,465 in July, which means there were 150,648 fewer people than in June, when the population was 2,477,113.
At the same time, there were 206,336 more people in Qatar at the end of last month as compared to July 2015, when the country’s population was 2,120,129.
The July population is the lowest recorded so far this year, with the previous low of 2,423,175 being registered in January. The population usually dips in these months as many people spend their holidays abroad.
In May this year, the country's population had reached an all-time high of 2,587,564, MDPS statistics showed.
Of the total population recorded at the end of last month, 1,837,797 were males (79%) and 488,668 females (21%).
Meanwhile, the MDPS announced that it had launched a revamped website. “We are pleased to share news of the launch of the ministry’s new website, updated in line with the policy of development and modernisation,” it said in a tweet on Tuesday.
