Mercury touches 49C; winds forecast for Thursday

After the mercury level soared to 49C in Qatar on Wednesday, the country is likely to experience windy conditions on Thursday, according to the weather report.
The Met department has warned that strong winds are expected in some inshore areas by midday as well as in offshore areas, along with high seas, towards the east.
The wind speed in inshore areas will range from 8-18 knots, reaching 24 knots in some places at times, while in offshore areas it will go up to 25 knots towards the east and decrease by night.
In inshore areas, hazy to misty conditions are expected in some places at first, followed by a hot day with slight dust and some clouds. It will also be relatively humid by night.
Offshore areas, meanwhile, are likely to see slightly dusty conditions with some clouds. The sea level may rise to 6-7ft towards the east.
On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded in Qatar was 49C in Turayna and Shehaimiya, followed by 48C in Al Rayyan, Sheehaniyah, Karanah and Jumayliyah, 47C in the Qatar University area, Dukhan, Umm Bab and Ghuwairiyah, and 46C in the Doha airport area and Al Khor.
On Thursday, the mercury level is expected to reach a high of 43C in Dukhan and 42C in Doha and Abu Samra.
