Court reverses QU decision to terminate Qatari employee

The Administrative Court has annulled a Qatar University (QU) decision to dismiss one of its Qatari employees from his post.
Local Arabic daily Al Sharq reported that the man had filed a case against QU to regain his job based on the claim that the decision to terminate his contract was not legal and was instead a punitive measure.

His lawyer argued that the employee was given a three-day deduction of salary over some issue and was dismissed from the administrative job without following the necessary legal procedures, according to the daily.
The lawyer told the court that HE the Minister concerned is the only person who has the power - under the law - to terminate his client's employment. The university only had a regulatory relation with the employee, he further argued, requesting for QR1mn as compensation for the damage caused to the client.
Eventually, the court ruled that the termination be cancelled and the employee be reinstated to his post.
