Total visitor arrivals at the Abu Samra border reached 523,160 in six months up to June, figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) show.
However, it is lower than the 615,856 visitors, who utilised Abu Samra border to reach Qatar in 2015, the figures reveal.
According to the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics some 665,355 visitors from the GCC region visited Qatar in June. They constituted 46% of the “visitor arrivals” in the country.
Visitors from the Asia/Oceania region comprised 342,976 (23.8%), Europe 220,218 (15.3%), other Arabs 121,090 (8.4%), Americas 77,689 (5.4%) and other Africa 15,110 (1%).
Hamad International Airport (HIA) had seen 1.41mn departures and 1.33mn arrivals in June. The HIA figures include transit and transfers, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics said.
Hotel occupancy rate stood 47% (all categories) in June, while five-star hotels registered 42% and four-star 57%. Three-star hotels have seen 40% occupancy rate and one and two-star hotels 52% in June, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics said.
Qatar’s population (as of June 2016) was 2.47mn, up 5.6% on 2.34mn in the same period last year.
In June, Qatar registered as many as 2,172 births, of whom 289 were Qatari males and 287 Qatari females.
The period under review also saw some 184 deaths.
The number of marriages registered among Qatari males was 179 and females 168.
The number of traffic violations booked in Qatar in June stood at 110,606. This, however, showed a 22.2% drop compared to May.
The number of radar violations registered in June was 65,959. Violation in relation to traffic instructions stood at 9,621, traffic signs 9,573, red lights 1,480, non-renewal of registration 101 and others 23,872.
The statistics showed that the total number of driving licenses issued in the country in June was 7,242 of whom 573 were Qatari recipients.
The number of vehicles registered in Qatar in June totalled 6,868. But this was 8.86% lower than the 7,536 vehicles registered in the country in May.
Of the vehicles registered, 4219 (61.4%) were private, 158 (2.3%) taxis, 284 heavy equipment (4.1%) and trailers 259 (3.8%).
In real estate, as many as 350 properties were sold at a value of QR2.96bn.
The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics figures also showed that the total broad money supply (M2) totalled QR494bn in June, down 0.71% on May.
On the other hand, cash component, which includes deposits increased by 0.16 % during June and totalled QR684bn.
In contrast, total broad money supply (M2) recorded a negative year-on-year change of 7.18%, while cash component that includes deposits, recorded a positive year-on-year change of 6.2%.
