The National Committee for Traffic Safety (NCTS) has formed a team to develop a comprehensive database on traffic in the country. 
The team’s members represent different stakeholders involved in the area of traffic safety.
In an interview with the police magazine (Al Shurta Ma’ak), NCTS secretary Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah al-Malki stressed that the database would benefit all entities concerned with traffic safety and security in Qatar. 
The database will be created based on the committee’s belief that traffic statistics and data are vital for drawing up proper strategies. 
The NCTS has also lined up a number of future projects to enhance safety on Qatar’s roads and ease potential congestion. These include a school transportation project that involves encouraging the use of school buses, a traffic village project as well as plans to build a number of pedestrian bridges and underpasses to prevent accidents involving walkers.
Brigadier al-Malki, meanwhile, said the Ministry of Interior will set up a new highway patrol police force in the near future to enforce traffic regulations and laws and ensure the safety of all road users. In this regard, he said 50 police personnel have been trained – in co-operation with RasGas Company Limited – by experts from Northwestern University, Chicago, US. 
He noted that the NCTS is closely following up on the implementation of projects that are part of the requirements for the 2022 FIFA World Cup regarding traffic safety and transportation.
