Kahramaa takes steps to improve power network

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has taken several measures to improve electricity transmission, distribution and maintenance of network in the second quarter of 2016.
In a press release issued yesterday, listing the achievements during the period, Kahramaa said its Electricity Control Centre carried out several maintenance works in the second quarter of the current year, during which 1,658 permits were issued for maintenance, construction of stations and repairing damage.
Kahramaa said its Electricity Control Centre attended to 232 cases of damage in its distribution network and restored power to customers during the period, issued 1,557 permits for checking missions, constructed 298 new electricity distribution stations, removing around 9.33km overhead lines, and extended 296.75km of underground cables for supporting the medium voltage network.
Moreover, 75% of the Cyber Security Project has been accomplished for Escada Control Centre, upgrading systems controlling the stations and securing the appropriate electrical feedings for many activities in the country.
Kahramaa said that during the period, it monitored maintenance works and replacement of the existing network in electricity distribution stations in order to reduce damage rate.
The corporation operated 490 distribution transformers, 301 distribution plants besides building 148 electricity distribution stations. It also completed civilian maintenance works for 320 stations in order to maintain the performance level of the electrical network stability within adopted operating levels.
During the period, Kahramaa extended 443km of distribution cables, including 372km of 11K/V cables.
It also attended to some 13,731 frequent interruption cases.
Also during the period 88% of protection devices were replaced with modern digital devices.
Kahramaa’s future strategic plans aim at improving performance to raise the level of electrical network via periodical maintenance of transmission and distribution plants and monitoring them through the National Control Centre.
