Ty Burrell helps raise funds for foster kids

Modern Family star Ty Burrell brought his star power to good use when he helped raise funds for foster children. Several stars came together last week in support of Kids in the Spotlight‘s (KITS) inaugural “Cocktails for a Cause” hosted by Burrell, reports variety.com.
Founded in 2009, KITS is a non-profit organisation that introduces the art of filmmaking to foster children and other marginalised youth in the Los Angeles area.
Held at the private home of executive producer and writer of The Big Bang Theory Lee Aronsohn, guests such as Burrell, Mo McRae (Empire), Aisha Hinds (True Blood) and Malcolm-Jamal Warner (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) were seen enjoying custom cocktails and Louisiana cuisine by the poolside.
Attendees also bid on a variety of items through the event’s silent auction, ranging from artwork created by children in the programme to a director’s chair signed by the cast of the hit TV show 24. Burrell, who has long been a supporter of KITS, noted the difference he has seen in many of these children since joining the organisation.
Burrell said: “In terms of (their) self-esteem, there has been so many success stories for these kids. The main focus (of this organisation) is to give these kids a voice, who have been marginalised by society.” — IANS
Robin Williams’s daughter on break from social media

As the anniversary of the death of actor-comedian Robin Williams is approaching, his daughter Zelda says she is taking a break from social media.
The iconic comedian and actor died on August 11, 2014. He was 63. Zelda took to Twitter to let fans know that she will be taking a break from social media. The 27-year-old also expressed her gratitude to all the fans, reports hollywoodreporter.com.
She posted: “So, it’s that time of year again. I will be taking another break off social media. For those who always ask why, it’s so people can memorialise Dad on the anniversary of his death. However, they wish without me having to feel bombarded by it, or pressured by the expectation put on myself or my family to publicity acknowledge or join in doing so.”
Zelda explained: “I will always be so grateful for all the love the world had and continues to have for dad, but for obvious reasons, it’s sometimes harder to be the sort of surviving public vessel for receiving those sentiments, and one often expected to somehow flawlessly express them back. Thus, I’ll be excusing myself for a bit. Hearts just need little breaks sometimes.”
Zelda hopes fans will be able to remember her father in various ways. “Obviously, the world will keep on spinning. This is hardly an important issue, my main point being you should continue to remember Dad however you want! I’ll just be doing so privately.
“And if you’d like to celebrate his life by celebrating causes he loved, you need only google, and you’ll find wonderful charities like the @ReeveFoundation, @CAFoundation and many more. Tata for now!”
Williams, who featured in a string of comedy films like Mrs. Doubtfire, Night at the Museum and Aladdin, was found dead at his home in California. — IANS
