The Bangladesh embassy observed the National Mourning Day and the 41st death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman yesterday at a solemn programme attended by mission officials and community members.
As part of the programme, ambassador Ashud Ahmed hoisted the national flag at half-mast at the embassy.
A discussion meeting on the life and works of the Father of the Nation followed. A minute’s silence was observed to show respect to the Father of the Nation and the martyrs of August 15, 1975.
Messages from the president, prime minister, foreign minister and state minister for foreign affairs of Bangladesh on the occasion were read out.
During the discussion, speakers highlighted the contributions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the independence struggle of Bangladesh. They urged all to work wholeheartedly to fulfil his dream of a prosperous Bangladesh.
The students of Bangladesh School in Qatar also spoke. Ambassador Ashud Ahmed recalled the epic role played by Bangabandhu in Bangladesh’s emergence as an independent country.
“As a nation we must learn a lesson here – our pain should be turned into our strength and we should work hard to fulfil the dream of the Father of the Nation – a golden Bengal.”
A documentary on the life and works of Bangabandhu was screened during the event. After
the discussion meeting, a special prayer was also offered.
