Pakistani bikers celebrate Independence Day in style

There was an exciting pitch to Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations in Doha this year. After the more formal flag hoisting ceremony at the embassy in the morning, some 50 enthusiasts of the Pakistan Bikers Association took out a fun rally at the Ezdan Mall Sunday evening to celebrate the occasion.
With their motor bikes painted in green, the young ones took a round of the mall, waving the green flag of Pakistan with a white moon crescent and star.
The celebration was accentuated thanks to a famous Pakistan victory at The Oval in London the same day, lending a symbolic touch to the independence sheen. Pakistan beat England by 10 wickets to square the rubber, sending fans back home and the Pakistani Diaspora everywhere into raptures.
The community also put in its bit with Zoaq, a prominent Pakistani restaurant in Ezdan Mall, giving a 20 per cent discount on its meals for the day and hosting a face painting show and a quiz competition for children.
The winners took home prizes and enjoyed a pie of the 1x1m cake replicating the Pakistani flag. The cake was cut by Malik Qaiser, CEO Ezdan Mall, Ahmad Hussain, President Pakistan-Qatar Business Forum, and Omran Mughal, president Pakistan Bikers Association.
People of other communities also joined the festivity, sharing the cake and traditional green tea with Pakistanis.
The participating children later also planted saplings as part of an ongoing #GreenDream2022 Initiative at the Ezdan Mall.
