Wigan coach hit by unavailability of Manfredi

Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane has revealed he is juggling a host of injuries ahead of  tonight’s Super 8s showdown against St Helens — with star winger Dom Manfredi remaining on the unavailable list for the foreseeable future.
Manfredi has scored 14 tries in 21 appearances this season, form that has attracted the attention of new England coach Wayne Bennett with an eye on the Four Nations Series, which commences in October.
But the 22-year-old suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in Friday’s defeat at Castleford Tigers, meaning he is set to miss the third v fourth-place clash at the DW Stadium and the remainder of the Super League season.
“Dom’s out for a long time,” said Wane.“I’m gutted for him.
“He will bounce back stronger and the players are very motivated to get something from the season for him.”
Wane has concerns too over the fitness of winger Josh Charnley and stand-off George Williams but at the other end of the table Wakefield Wildcats centre Bill Tupou has declared himself fit to feature against Widnes Vikings on Sunday.
The Tonga international has missed Wakefield’s last two matches with hamstring trouble, to leave their hopes of a place in the play-offs hanging by a thread. But Tupou is back and hopes he can make the difference.
“I was close to playing last weekend, but wasn’t quite there with the injury. I’m pretty positive about my chances for Sunday,” said Tupou, who signed a new two-year deal with the club in April.
“It’s definitely frustrating when you have to watch and you cannot be out there for the boys during hard times.
“We’ve had a few set-backs with injuries, but it’s good to have seen the young blokes out there, stepping up.
“I’ve not been looking at the table, we’re just focusing on playing well every week. It’s about proving ourselves as a team every week.
“We won at Widnes in April and it certainly will be in our minds that we have shown before that we can do it there, and so we believe we can beat them away from home again.
“I didn’t play in that game on the artificial pitch, but the lads have told me to expect a good game because of the ground.” Pacesetters Hull FC have prop Iafeta Palea’aesina available again for the visit of fifth-placed Catalan Dragons to launch the next round of action on Thursday night.
The 33-year-old has been sidelined for more than two months with calf and anterior cruciate ligament injuries, but the former New Zealand international came through an appearance at the weekend for dual-registered club Doncaster unscathed.  “It was good to get some game time under my belt. I’m looking to push for a spot in the first-team now, but it’s not going to be easy. Everyone’s playing so well at the minute so it will be tough to show that I deserve my chance,” he said.
And Castleford Tigers are on the hunt for a fourth successive victory when they travel to second-placed Warrington Wolves who last month overturned an 18-16 half-time deficit to win 42-26.
