Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has carried out a six-month-long healthcare programme in Yemen’s various provinces, including provision of treatment for 286 cancer patients, 38% of whom are enrolled officially at the National Centre for the treatment of tumours in Yemen.
In a statement today, RAF said that the programme, which was implemented in collaboration with a number of partners in Yemen contributed to saving the patients’ lives by enabling them to return to their normal lives and earn a living to support their families.
The statement emphasised that the programme had achieved great success in the provision of treatment for the needy despite the exceptional situation experienced by Yemen.
Meanwhile, two aircraft carrying 50tonnes of medicines and medical supplies arrived in Sanaa international airport, the World health Organisation (WHO) said yesterday.
According to a statement released by the organisation’s office in Yemen an aid plane arrived at Sana’a International Airport yesterday, while the other plane arrived on Tuesday, adding that they were carrying 50tonnes of medicines and emergency medical supplies.
An official source at Sana’a International Airport announced yesterday that the airport received three planeloads of humanitarian aid provided by the United Nations, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced on Monday the reopening of Sanaa International Airport for aircraft of the United Nations and other international humanitarian organisations.
In a related development, Yemen’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Major
General Hussein Mohamed Arab discussed with representatives of international organisations working in Yemen, the issue of illegal immigration and the arrival of large number of Ethiopians to the Yemeni territories through illegal means.
The meeting, which was held in Aden, also dealt with the role of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in counting the number of illegal immigrants and in providing shelters for them as well as the co-ordination between the legitimate Yemeni government, represented by the local authorities and international organisations to curb illegal immigrants process to Yemen.
