Qatar wins praise from UNIDO, UNEP for ozone protection

Experts from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) yesterday praised the progress made by the State of Qatar with respect to the protection of the ozone layer and its Commitment to the implementation of the requirements of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (Montreal Protocol).
This came during a visit by the experts to Doha to discuss with a number of officials from the Department of prevention of radiation, chemicals and the national contact point for the ozone at the Ministry of Municipal and Environment and other relevant authorities relating to the national strategy to deal with hydrofluorocarbons. 
Discussions also dealt with several issues of mutual concern. 
The visit comes within the framework of implementation of the State of Qatar to the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol.
The UNIDO and UNEP officials were also briefed on the progress of the projects funded by the Multilateral Fund of the Montreal Protocol Parties, as well as preparation for the next phase of the projects that will be submitted to the Fund in order to put them into effect over the next year in the national strategy to deal with hydrofluorocarbons that will run until 2030, in accordance with the limits of the regulatory framework stipulated by the Protocol.
