Sales of tyres in Qatar have remained high this summer, with some dealers saying the figures have been particularly impressive since July.

The demand for various tyre-related services is also high, as many people carry out essential works or change old tyres to avoid problems during the peak summer months, it is learnt.
An employee of a leading tyre distributor in Doha told Gulf Times that they have been receiving “quite a large number of motorists, who look to replace their old tyres with new ones, almost every day since the onset of summer”.
He said they recorded a nearly 40% increase in sales last month over June, with the numbers increasing further in the first two weeks of August. This applied to almost all tyre sizes and brands.
The shop ran out of stocks of some popular brands and high-performance tyres this month, according to the employee. “We hope the shipment will come soon because customers come to us to buy tyres and replace the old ones outright,” he said. “We do not want to disappoint them by just saying we don’t have stocks.”
While business has been good in the summer months, he noted that the store had received even more customers in the same period last year.
A manager of another tyre store on Salwa Road, too, observed that the demand for new tyres and various related services goes up during the hot months.
He said they take advantage of the season to increase their revenues and make up for the off-peak season, which usually takes place during the winter.
Further, the manager pointed out that many shops offer promotions to woo customers and beat competition during the busy summer months.
Some stores have reduced their prices (per tyre) between 15% and 20% while some brands offer vouchers or freebies for buying a certain number of tyres.
The demand for tyre services has also surged with many motorists opting for regular maintenance and tyre checks.
An employee of a tyre service outlet on Salwa Road told Gulf Times that they have been getting a number of job orders for wheel alignment, wheel balancing and wheel rotation, among others. “We tell our customers, particularly new drivers, about the importance of proper tyre maintenance to make their tyres last long so that they save more money,” he said.
Visiting tyre service centres for wheel alignment and wheel rotation every 10,000km or 15,000km help prevent quick wear-and-tear, according to one of the staff members.
According to a Gulf Times report last month, the Qatar General Organisation for Standards and Metrology issued a circular extending the warranty period from six months to one year for all types of tyres sold in Qatar. The decision has given customers ample time to detect tyre defects.
