Expat forums mark Humanitarian Day

Demonstrating their commitment towards a safe and prosperous global community, expatriate groups in Doha recently got together to extend their support to the World Humanitarian Day of United Nations.
In an event organised by Media Plus, a local events management company, in association with Friends Cultural Centre and Anti-Smoking Society Qatar, representatives from different organisations of Indian expatriates raised awareness about World Humanitarian Day.
Every day, hundreds of humanitarian aid workers stand on the front lines of war and disaster, braving tremendous dangers and difficulties to deliver assistance to those who need it most.
World Humanitarian Day takes place every year on August 19 and it recognises the aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and mobilises people to advocate for humanitarian action.
The day was designated by the General Assembly seven years ago to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad. Inaugurating the event, Muhammed Hafiz, executive director of Bradma Group, called upon the community to work for the welfare and peaceful coexistence of the society.
“The world we live in is faced with a number of challenges and we have to overcome all issues with an open mind, based on the feelings of humanity and fraternity. Service to humanity should be our prime aim,” Hafiz told the audience.
Speaking on the occasion, Taj Aluwa, Cultural Forum President, delivered the keynote address. He elaborated upon the calamities and hardships faced by human beings across the world. Aluwa exhorted the audience to stand up for wiping the tears of the suffering humanity.
“In this mission we all need to have a feeling of oneness of mankind and One Humanity, this year’s Humanitarian Day theme,” he added. Media Plus CEO Amanulla Vadakkangara conducted the event.
“This event is a part of our corporate social responsibility and we shall take the message of the day across the community,” said Media Plus CEO M T Nilambur.
Shukkur Kinalur, chairman, Acon Group Ventures, presented certificates of appreciation to Bradma Group and Al Suwayed Group for the support to the humanitarian day programmes.
This World Humanitarian Day, the UN and its partners called for global solidarity with the more than 130mn people around the world who need humanitarian assistance to survive.
Under the theme of ‘One Humanity’, World Humanitarian Day highlighted how the world came together in Istanbul for the World Humanitarian Summit earlier this year, and made commitments to support people affected by crisis and ensure that aid workers can safely and more effectively deliver to those in need.
Events were held around the world on August 19 to honour the work of humanitarian workers and to celebrate the theme of ‘One Humanity’.
Established in 2006, Media Plus was the result of years of extensive experience in advertising, marketing and event management.
Amanulla Vadakkangara, the CEO of Media Plus, said he formed Media Plus in realisation of his dream after he left his elaborated position at Ideal Indian School.
The support of multifaceted businessman Shukkur Kinalur (Acon Group) gave wings to the dream and the patronage of Sheikh Salman Ahmed Ali al-Thani as chairman of the company gave an impetus to the development of the firm, he added.
With a new vision and hope, Media Plus was launched in December 2006. Qatar’s booming economy, leading oil and gas production and revolutionary developmental plans have made the team courageous. They claim to have provided the local community an ultimate destination for media solutions.
Analysing the trends in the market, the creative team visualises concepts that are impressive and convincing. Media Plus provides simple and effective marketing solutions based on current market trends.
