Qatar Racing Limited’s South Seas raced to an impressive win in the TCA Abu Dhabi Solario Stakes (Gr3) at Sandown Park this Saturday after overcoming a slow start.
In the final furlongs, the colt, ridden by jockey Oisin Murphy, came up on the inside rail and kept progressing forwards and none of his rivals could keep up with him. He left the second place to Salouen, two and a quarter lengths behind. However, the latter finished fast in the middle of the track. In third place came Eqtiraan, still quite green.
Trained by Andrew Balding, South Seas remains unbeaten in three runs. The two-year-old son of Lope De Vega holds entries in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes and Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in the coming months.
“You had to be impressed with his first two wins,” said Balding, “but it’s nice to see him go and do it in a race with a bit of depth. The second might have been an outsider, but he’s pretty good, and so is the third. The Dewhurst or the Racing Post Trophy are the obvious options but Sheikh Fahad will want to discuss everything. They usually step up to something better from this race.”

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when you are saying farewell to those that have left a positive impression. That was the case earlier this month when Canada hosted Mexico in a friendly at BC Place stadium in Vancouver.
