A supermarket in Al Khor has been closed permanently as it was found operating without the necessary permits, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said. Juma Khamis al-Muraikhi, director of Al Khor and Al Thakira Municipality, issued an administrative decision to close the supermarket.
The health control section at the Department of Municipal Control had inspected the store in co-ordination with security agencies concerned.
The matter has been forwarded to the competent authorities for further legal procedures. The closure comes at a time when civic officers have intensified inspection campaigns at food outlets, distributors and facilities in the country in preparation for the upcoming Eid al-Adha.
The campaigns aim to ensure the compliance of retailers and service providers with the necessary health and hygiene conditions when handling foodstuff before selling them.
