Bus route vital for Barwa Village, say traders

Traders at Barwa Village are pushing for circular bus services between the Doha Bus Station and the commercial-cum-residential development on the southern side of Doha, which opened more than five years ago.
With the opening of the new stretch of road from the F-Ring Road intersection of Najma Street to the southern side, traffic to the Barwa Village area has seen a steady increase, traders point out.
They feel the commercial outlets at Barwa Village will greatly benefit if there are direct buses from the city areas through Gulf Cinema Signal, Mall Signal, E-Ring Road and the Najma Street area of Al Thumama.
Some of the shop operators say that improved public transport services to Barwa Village would also help more people to visit the place, especially in the evenings and on weekends.
The circular services, if introduced, could serve the commuters better than most other public transport buses, currently operating across Doha, traders believe.
The buses could return to Doha Bus Station through the Airport Road or vice versa, they point out.
Inquiries with traders at Souq Al Haraj found that many of them are likely to be forced to move in the next few months to the new souq coming up near Barwa Village as part of its Phase 2 expansion.
"The introduction of public transport buses would not only help more people consider relocating to the new souq but will also improve businesses there," said the owner of a furniture shop at Souq Al Haraj.
